The way to explore the greater you: believing in yourself

A lion feeling confident in nature

(written on a train)

We all tend to neglect ourselves. It’s what I observe regularly in the people development world “It’s not my time to talk”, "my questions aren’t good”, "someone ‘better’ could answer”. The degree of confidence varies from one person to the next but generally speaking, we can sabotage our potential and dreams by lacking in confidence. Here is a snap pick of my experience.

How to believe in yourself?

ACCEPT THE POSITIVE

I have the chance to be surrounded by loved ones and kind colleagues. I have built a transparent and feedback culture with them and (yet) it’s fascinating how much I still remember more negative comments. When I receive compliments (whatever they are), I now pay more attention to pausing, reflecting on what’s being said to anchor the positivity in me. If I force myself to trust the good signs, I notice even more success and comfort in life.

👉🏻 Listen to the compliments!

ACCEPT THE IMPERFECTION!

Sometimes before public speaking, an internal critic says: ‘you are going to make French/English mistakes, you won’t speak clearly, what you say isn’t valuable’. But I have been observing around me: who never makes language mistakes? Who is always perfectly prepared? I hear mistakes from CEOs and not even the experts are infallible. Because nobody is perfect. The issue is some people and cultures make you think that you cannot succeed, or worse, they pretend that they are better than you.

👉🏻 Be kind to yourself!

ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE!

Believing in ourselves is about developing a clearer understanding of the self. Learning who we are comes with new situations and obstacles. My trainer in coaching once told me ‘a good coach is someone who challenges’. He is right, the more I put myself in unknown or stretched environments to build a new perspective, the stronger my resilience and belief become. Facing a challenge may be tough at first but…

👉🏻 ... Enjoy the learning curve!

You now understand how to explore the greater you, it’s about acceptance. Accepting who you are and working around it. Because it always gets better. How to act and accept? Read my tips again and try this time to FEEL the suggestions, how would they apply in your life? Simply internalise the next compliment you hear; see the next mistake you make as learning opportunities and be open to the next challenge offered to you.

With confidence everything is possible.

Take care,

Morgan
