Success Story 1
Cultivating Strengths and Connection for a Global Non-Profit
Challenge
A globally dispersed non-profit organization, faced a unique challenge: fostering meaningful connections, collaboration, and accountability among its team members, many of whom had never met in person. With employees spread across continents, working remotely, and dealing with diverse challenges in the coffee industry, WCR needed an innovative solution to align their team around shared values, enhance communication, and unlock the potential of their individual and collective strengths.
Solution
To address these needs, I partnered with them to design and facilitate a transformative company retreat in Costa Rica, blending strategic strengths-based development with immersive, engaging activities. This included:
Strengths Discovery and Team Bonding
-
All team members completed CliftonStrengths to uncover their top talents.
-
We used exercises like the “Tree of Strengths” to help individuals visualize and articulate their unique contributions, fostering deeper self-awareness and team appreciation.
-
A team grid analysis for each department highlighted shared and complementary strengths, enabling more effective collaboration.
Values-Driven Activities
Customized exercises connected the organization's core values to practical applications, helping participants see how their strengths supported accountability and compliance within the organization.
Sustained Development
-
Follow-up plans included launching a "Strengths Discovery Discussion Guide" to help leaders integrate strengths into everyday conversations with their teams.
-
A blueprint for future team workshops ensured continued momentum for strengths-based growth.
Outcome
The retreat was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the organization. Key outcomes included
Stronger Connections: Team members formed personal bonds and a deeper appreciation for each other’s strengths, fostering collaboration across departments.
Increased Alignment with Values: The retreat reinforced WCR’s mission and values, helping employees see their unique contributions to organizational goals.
A Culture of Accountability: Through tailored discussions, employees gained clarity on how their strengths supported compliance, accountability, and team success.
Sustainable Growth: With plans for ongoing workshops and integration of strengths into performance reviews, WCR has embraced a strengths-focused culture that empowers its team.
Conclusion
By combining strengths-based development, creative team-building exercises, and a strong alignment with their values, I was able to help this global non-profit transform their team dynamics. The experience in Costa Rica not only strengthened their organization but also planted the seeds for lasting collaboration, growth, and success.
Success Story 2
Boosting Engagement and Collaboration at a All-Staff Retreat
Challenge
This organization faced challenges highlighted in their latest employee engagement survey, which identified the need for stronger leadership, trust, and communication across the organization. With a diverse team of over 40 people, the organization sought to boost engagement scores while fostering a culture of collaboration and recognition
Approach
We partnered with them to design and facilitate their December all-staff retreat in Washington, DC. Using insights from the survey, we focused on two key themes: Feedback & Recognition and Leadership & Management. The retreat incorporated interactive, evidence-based activities tailored to their specific needs, ensuring every session was actionable and aligned with organizational goals.
Presenting engagement survey results using the Tree of Engagement metaphor, which visualized strengths and opportunities in trust, communication, and alignment.
A feedback speed-dating exercise where staff practiced giving and receiving actionable feedback across roles, enhancing two-way communication.
Leadership breakout sessions exploring trust gaps, root causes of lower engagement scores, and practical solutions to address them.
A collaborative discussion celebrating team successes and identifying priorities to further strengthen engagement.
What They Said
Conclusion
By aligning activities with engagement survey results, the retreat was energizing and positioned them for sustained growth. As we move into 2025, we are excited to continue supporting them with strengths-based programming and team-building initiatives to build on this momentum.
Success Story 3
Energizing the Speciality Coffee Association's All-Staff Gathering
Challenge
The Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) sought to host a transformative all-staff gathering that would unite their global team, align them with organizational values, and establish a clear strategic direction for the next five years. With staff working remotely, the SCA needed a dynamic facilitator to foster collaboration, inspire engagement, and deliver a seamless and impactful event.
Solution
SCA partnered with me to design and facilitate a bespoke three-day offsite program tailored to their specific needs. Drawing on my expertise in team building, strategy workshops, and organizational values alignment, I crafted an agenda centered on the themes of collaboration, creativity, and forward-thinking.
Team-Building Activities: Engaging exercises such as the "Coffee Cup Tower Challenge" and "The Tree of Connection" brought the team together, fostering trust and camaraderie while highlighting their shared purpose.
Values Alignment Workshop: Through interactive discussions, feedback circles, and innovative tools like Mentimeter, participants deepened their understanding of SCA’s core values, strengthening their commitment to a unified organizational culture.
Strategy Setting: The "Coffee Futures" exercise allowed staff to brainstorm and visualize SCA’s trajectory over the next five years. Vision boards and collaborative sessions sparked innovative ideas, leaving leadership with actionable insights.
Cross-Collaboration Mixer: Staff explored synergies across departments, breaking silos and identifying opportunities for greater alignment and teamwork.
Outcome
The offsite was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from participants and leadership alike. Staff reported feeling more connected to their colleagues, aligned with SCA’s mission and values, and energized about the future. The CEO noted how the event successfully bridged gaps in communication and inspired a shared vision for the organization.
The success of this event reaffirmed my passion for helping organizations like SCA foster meaningful connections and achieve their vision through tailored, impactful facilitation.
What the Client Said
We recently organized our first All Staff Retreat with Morgan as our facilitator that went amazingly well. When we were searching for a facilitator, we wanted someone who had a global perspective and who could work with large groups of people. Morgan was a great fit for what we needed with creative activities woven into the purpose of our meeting to plan for the next 5 years of the organization. It was a joy to work with Morgan as he was empathetic, creative, and created a positive atmosphere for our Staff. I can’t recommend Morgan enough for anyone who is looking for this type of environment for their staff.
